SPREADBALL
A downloadable game for Windows
THIS. IS. SPREADBALL.
I'm very proud of this project as its the first video game I've ever made. I did this just for pirate software's gameJam and the theme was 'it spreads.'
So the idea for my game is that its a 1 vs 1 first person pong game essentially, You want to try to fill in (spread) as many of your opponents squares with the ball while trying to defend them doing the same to you.
If you step on a colored square, you will be slightly slowed. The movement is easy to pick up, but difficult to master. There are different many different methods of returning the ball that can each be discovered naturally.
There is a shot timer penalty. If you try to hoard the ball/s on your side of the court while up in points. The enemy's squares will start being un-colored every 5 seconds along with your points going down.
The winner is decided by whoever has the most colored squares at the end of 5 minutes or one of you has your court completely colored.
The main fun from the game comes from the movement. You can kick / dash precisely, and if you need some extra speed and distance you can combo the kick into a crouch slide.
Controls :
Movement - WASD
Jump - Space
Pick up Ball - E
Charge/Throw ball - Left Mouse Button
Dash - Right Mouse Button
Crouch/Slide - Left Ctrl
Movement Techniques :
Jump, Kick, Crouch = High Speed Slide
Grab + Jump + Dash = Spike Ball
Grab + Control = Roll the ball

so much fun, i can play for hours
loved every second
Good game i had fun playing it this is the feedback i have for it.
1. the ai seem to just stand closest to the ball they can get on their side (I only played agist the easy ai btw) this is problematic because it makes kicking kind of useless and the best strategy is to just grab the ball and throw it over the ai's head which gets boring.
2. the arena is a little deep so if the ball gets kicked over to you side you just have to run all the way to the end to get it back. Mabey it could be shorter so people have to thing about what direction they kick the ball so it doesn't come bouncing back to their side.
(this is smth i thought would be cool to add) some pillars or smth to each side that bounce the ball so that you could do some cool things like kick it to a pillar then catch the ball and throw it somewhere to make it more interactive.
If you only played on easy go back and give it a try on hard I think you'll find it's a much different experience
Very cool game! The movement and throwing feel pretty good! I think if you somehow got multiplayer working it'd be a fun multiplayer game. Well done
One of the freshest takes on the pong archetype I've seen in a long time. Bravo to fresh blood in the game dev space, could play this for hours
